Trade Finance

Trade finance is an increasingly popular method of finance used to provide short term funding solutions.

It is particularly well suited to businesses who import goods which have been ordered by creditworthy customers, but where you have little or no credit terms available from your supplier and your existing funding is already fully utilised. Trade finance gives you additional funding to enable you to take such orders on, thus giving you the opportunity of generating more income and profit for your business.

Basically the trade finance house would pay your supplier overseas, the goods would come into the UK which you would then supply to your customer and invoice in the usual way.

You can use trade finance as a one off or as part of your ongoing finance arrangements. It does not impact on your existing financial arrangements so is an additional finance tool available to you without compromising any of your current lenders.

Typically trade finance companies require the following to consider an application:

• There must be a confirmed order from a creditworthy customer (or customers) for the goods which are to be imported
• The goods must be non—perishable
• The trade finance company must be able to obtain title to the goods
• You will need to demonstrate a good track record of experience within your industry
• Trade finance may sound very complex, however it is successfully utilised by many businesses and provides another tool to increase both turnover and profitability for you.
